Its a fun little lens that creates wonderful images. 1. Panny1 • 8 yr. ago. As you have the crop camera, you're really looking at: 24mm is a 38mm 40 2.8 is a 64mm 4.5 50 1.8 is an 80mm 2.7 (Approx) So the 24 will be more like a 40 on a full frame - this may not be wide enough for landscape shooting on vacation.
It’s a question of performance per price, and by that measure the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM (as well as the older EF 50mm f/1.8 II) shines. If you are a professional photographer, you probably should
Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM VS 24mm f/2.8? I've been thinking about purchasing one of these lenses. I understand that the 50mm is perfect for portraits and has an amazing background blur effect. However, it's a long length and it would be hard for landscape/street photograph which is something 24mm would be better at.
The EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM and the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM were designed with the same purpose in mind. Because a cropped sensor has a smaller surface than a full-frame sensor, any lens you attach to a crop-sensor camera has a "crop factor" associated with it - you have to multiply the focal length by 1.6x, because a full-frame sensor is 1.6x larger
